Samantha Spiro joins Guys And Dolls

Published 16 February 2016

Samantha Spiro, Richard Kind and Oliver Tompsett will replace Sophie Thompson, David Haig and Jamie Parker when hit musical Guys And Dolls transfers across London’s West End from the Savoy Theatre to the Phoenix Theatre.

Siubhan Harrison and Gavin Spokes will continue as Sarah Brown and Nicely Nicely Johnson when the acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre production makes the move next month. It closes at the Savoy on 12 March before beginning its Phoenix run on 19 March.

Olivier Award winner Spiro, who picks up the baton as Miss Adelaide, is a regular on the London stage. She boasts eclectic credits from Macbeth to Hello, Dolly! and Merrily We Roll Along to Di And Viv And Rose.

Tompsett, who takes over from the Harry Potter And The Cursed Child-bound Parker as Sky Masterson, is one of musical theatre’s most exciting leading men, having led the casts of productions including We Will Rock You, Rock Of Ages and Wicked.

Former Tony Award nominee Kind may not be as well known a face to British theatre fans, but his voice should be instantly recognisable; it has featured in animated movies including Inside Out, A Bug’s Life and Cars. On television, he also starred in Michael J Fox political comedy Spin City.

Billy Boyle and Jason Pennycooke also join the cast as Arvide and Benny.

Guys And Dolls was described by Official London Theatre’s Kate Stanbury as “a joyous and vibrant production that is everything you could ever hope for from a classic musical revival” when it opened at the Savoy Theatre earlier this year. It tells the story of Nathan Detroit, who’s desperate to find a location to hold his floating craps game, Miss Adelaide, his long-suffering showgirl fiancé, Sky Masterson, the successful gambler Detroit tricks into making an unwinnable bet, and Sarah Brown, the struggling Salvation Army sergeant who is the focus of that bet.
