Pirates and puppets come to Polka theatre this summer

First Published 4 February 2010, Last Updated 5 February 2010

Polka theatre has announced its summer season with pirates and operatic puppets joining famous siblings Charlie and Lola at the Wimbledon children’s venue.

After the previously announced Charlie And Lola’s Best Bestest Play, which plays from 17 February to 15 May, swashbuckling summer adventure Pirates! takes over the theatre from 19 June to 7 August.

When Jim is kidnapped by pirates he isn’t prepared for the adventure ahead as they go in search of missing treasure. Can Jim escape the pirates and find his way back home from 1718, and will the mystery of the missing treasure ever be solved? Award-winning playwright Charles Way’s magical and exciting drama is suitable for children aged 7 to 11.

The next production at Polka theatre is Skitterbang Island, which plays from 7 July to 21 August. The musical adventure is about a brave little girl who meets a strange and curious creature when lost on a bleak island. In the odd creature’s cave, he shows the girl his collection of junk and metal washed up from the sea. His newest collection contains a beautiful piece of treasure, but who does it really belong to?

Phil Porter and Martin Ward’s tale of friendship and discovery uses puppetry and opera to create a summer treat for children aged 3 to 6.
