One Queen visits One Man

Her Majesty the Queen enjoyed a night of laughter at the theatre this week, when she dropped into the Theatre Royal Haymarket to see One Man, Two Guvnors.

Possibly giving herself a theatrical treat as part of her personal Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Queen arrived at the historic venue with Prince Philip, their grandson Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn to enjoy the award-winning comedy that is currently one of the hottest tickets in the West End.

Far from arriving to fanfares and gazing down on the rest of the audience from the Royal Box, the regal entourage entered the foyer unannounced shortly before curtain up and sat among regular audience members, many of whom reportedly saw the monarch giggling through the performance.

The award-winning show, which premiered at the National Theatre before moving to the Adelphi theatre and now the Theatre Royal Haymarket, now features a new cast, with James Corden and the original performers heading to Broadway where they hope to recreate the comedy’s London success.

At the Haymarket, Owain Arthur plays Francis Henshall, a man motivated almost entirely by food who, when he is kicked out of his skiffle band, takes two jobs with two small time crooks. All he has to do is stop them finding out about each other!
