New Matilda cast get up to old tricks

First Published 5 September 2016, Last Updated 9 September 2016

Ahead of its 5th birthday in the West End, Matilda The Musical has announced that Sara Sheen and Abbie Vena will join Zaris-Angel Hator and Clara Read in the title role from 13 September 2016.

Craige Els continues in the role of Miss Trunchbull, having first donned the body suit in September 2014. Also remaining in the company are Michael Begley as Mr Wormwood, Miria Parvin as Miss Honey and Rebecca Thornhill who plays Mrs Wormwood.

To celebrate the arrival of the show’s new young actresses, a video has been released of the four girls taking part in a special magic workshop with Paul Kieve, the theatre illusionist behind Matilda The Musical’s on-stage magic and special effects. Paul is one of the world’s leading theatre illusionists, having designed magical effects for more than 150 productions around the world. Watch as the Matildas master sleight of hand, and share what magic power they wish they had.

Winner of a record-breaking 7 Olivier Awards, Matilda The Musical tells the story of a child with an incredible talent for learning. Despite being hampered by unscrupulous, uncaring parents, she excels intellectually and even discovers a rather unique talent.

Tickets for the new booking period, which includes performances at the Cambridge theatre between 30 May and 15 October 2017, will go on sale on the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth, 13 September.
