Musical stars join Philippines concert

The original cast of West End hit Avenue Q, Over The Rainbow winner Danielle Hope and rising star Cynthia Erivo have joined the line-up for You’ll Never Walk Alone, a one night only concert in aid of the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.

West End stars Jon Robyns, Simon Lipkin, Julie Atherton and Giles Terera will be reunited with their former arm-dwelling puppet companions, bringing back together some of the original London cast of irreverent musical Avenue Q as part of the special performance being held on 2 March at the Queen’s Theatre

Lipkin’s I Can’t Sing – The X Factor Musical colleague Erivo, who drew wide acclaim for her performance in The Color Purple last year, also joins the cast alongside West End regular Cassidy Janson.

Screen stars Francine Lewis, who made a name for herself as an impressionist on Britain’s Got Talent, and Strictly Come Dancing’s Pasha and Katya, have also been added to the bill that already featured stars including Joanna Riding, Hannah Waddingham and Michael Xavier.

The event, which will donate its proceeds to the Disasters Emergency Committee, aims to raise funds to support the more than 14 million people whose lives have been affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The tropical storm hit the Philippines on 7 November 2013, destroying around 590,000 homes with its 140mph winds and flooding.

Producer Paul Spicer commented: “In such dire situations we often feel helpless, but through entertainment and celebration of the Filipino people’s resilience, we can make a difference. This will be a truly one-off event rooted in hope and inspired by the Filipino spirit and vivacity. Disasters like this may often seem a million miles away from our reality, but when a crisis occurs it affects humanity as a whole. By lending our efforts to this appeal, we are expressing loyalty not only to the people of the Philippines, but to humankind.”

Tickets for the event are available from £32.50. Call 0844 482 5164 to book.
