Stage fanatics have the rare chance to join leading musical theatre performers and creatives including Olivier Award winner Bertie Carvel and acclaimed designer Soutra Gilmour in a day-long celebration of musicals at the V&A.

Staged as part of the incredible immersive exhibition Curtain Up, the event will take place on Saturday 16 April from 10:30 to 16:30 in the museum’s The Lydia & Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre.

Focussing on the world renowned professionals working in London’s Theatreland, the day will explore everything from set and costume design to what it takes to produce a hit, covering musicals from the longest running West End musical of all time, Les Misérables, to seven time Olivier Award-winning hit Matilda The Musical.

The study day, for which tickets cost £50, is just one of a series of events taking place as part of Curtain Up’s run at the iconic museum.  On Monday 18 April, theatre lovers can find out more about the inspiration for the exhibition at a free lunchtime lecture from 13:00 to 14:00 by Anna Landreth Strong, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Performance at the V&A.

In the hour-long talk, audiences will be introduced to the staggering success of both West End and Broadway theatre, which the transatlantic exhibition explores; delving into the worlds of plays, musicals and productions, and the craft and collaboration that goes into creating the many Olivier and Tony Award cross Atlantic hits.

Curtain Up continues its run at the V&A until 31 August. It will then travel to New York’s The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in autumn.
