Menier premieres Zeller’s Truth

Published 25 January 2016

Lindsay Posner will direct the UK premiere of Florian Zeller’s The Truth at the Menier Chocolate Factory this March.

Following the huge success of the French playwright’s The Father and The Mother, both of which transferred to London following runs at the Theatre Royal Bath, The Truth is the third work by the Molière Award winner in recent months to receive a London run.

In a new version by his frequent collaborator Christopher Hampton, Zeller’s biting comedy explores friendship, suspicion, deceit and, of course, the truth.

The story of two couples, The Truth centres around businessman Michel and his affair with doctor Alice. When Alice – who also just happens to be married to Michel’s best friend Paul – decides she wants more from the relationship, Michel finds himself facing unexpected consequences to his extramarital dalliance.

Marking a hugely successful year in London for the acclaimed writer, The Truth will run in conjunction with a second West End run for The Father, as Kenneth Cranham reprises his leading role in the disorientating dementia drama from 24 February at the Duke of York’s Theatre, and just shortly miss the Tricycle Theatre run of its companion piece, The Mother, which ends on 5 March.

The Truth will play at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 10 March to 7 May. Casting is still to be announced.
