Menier announces full casting for The Lie

First Published 14 August 2017, Last Updated 14 August 2017

James Dreyfus, Tony Gardner and Alexandra Gilbreath will join Samantha Bond in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s latest play by Florian Zeller, The Lie, in a translation by Christopher Hampton.

The show sees the return of Zeller, Hampton and Posner to the London Bridge venue following the hugely acclaimed run of The Truth in 2016, which later transferred to the West End before being nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

Dreyfus returns to the Menier following previous appearances including Candide and The Common Pursuit, with West End credits including The Master Builder (The Old Vic) and The Producers (Theatre Royal Drury Lane); he previously starred in the film Notting Hill.

He will be joined by Gardner (The Rivals, Theatre Royal Haymarket; television’s Last Tango In Halifax and My Parents Are Aliens), RSC Associate Artist Gilbreath (Olivier nomination for Best Actress in a Play for Twelfth Night) and the previously announced stage and screen star Bond.

Alice spots her friend’s husband with another woman.  Should she tell her friend the truth…or lie?  Her husband Paul is convinced that it is better to lie. But in doing so, who is being protected and who suffers?  Both find out that in matters of the heart, the line between the truth and a lie can be a dangerous one to cross.

The Lie plays at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 14 September – 18 November.

You can book your tickets through the venue’s website.
