Magic reveals Audience Award shortlist

Published 14 March 2016

Jersey Boys, Matilda The Musical, Les Misérables and The Phantom Of The Opera have made it onto the shortlist for the Olivier Awards’ publicly-voted Magic Radio Audience Award.

The quartet of long-running London theatre hits was announced by Magic Radio DJ Richard Allinson during his drive time show this afternoon.

Theatre fans voted in their thousands to help the four shows that make up the shortlist come top of the 16 productions eligible for the special Olivier Award, the only one decided entirely by the theatregoing public.

Speaking about the award, Allinson said: “It’s been fantastic seeing our listeners get so excited about the Magic Radio Audience Award. Competition has been fierce and there is a plethora of amazing West End shows featured. I can’t wait to see the final four gather in Covent Garden and wait with anticipation to see who the winner is.”

Theatregoers and voters will find out if Les Misérables has won an unprecedented third Audience Award, if The Phantom Of The Opera has won a second 14 years after its first triumph, or if Jersey Boys or Matilda The Musical pick up this award for the first time on Sunday 3 April.

The Magic Radio Audience Award winner will be unveiled alongside all the other Olivier Award nominees at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard, where the leading lights of London theatre will come together to celebrate a fantastic year of theatre in the capital.

You can get involved with all the glamour and excitement on the night by heading to Covent Garden Piazza where you’ll be entertained by live performances from the shortlisted Magic Radio Audience Award shows and be able to watch a live stream of events within the Royal Opera House on big screens. It’s the only place in the UK, except from inside the Opera House where the awards are staged, that you can watch live.

As the Oliviers official new partner, we’ll be on hand in the run up to the event, and on the night, to keep you up to date and entertained with all the best Olivier Awards news and features.
