We’ve got a first look at production images from Heathers The Musical, released today.

Playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket until 11 September, this highly-anticipated musical is based on the 1988 cult hit, that starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

Greetings and salutations. Welcome to Westerberg High where Veronica Sawyer is just another nobody dreaming of a better day. But when she joins the beautiful and impossibly cruel Heathers and her dreams of popularity may finally come true, mysterious teen rebel JD teachers her that it might kill to be a nobody, but it is murder being a somebody…

We went to check out the show on the opening night and described it as “energetic” and “not a typical teen heartthrob musical.” You can follow our trip to Heathers the Musical as well as checking our behind-the-scenes day with Christina Bennington who plays Veronica Sawyer.

Be sure to grab your tickets to see this wickedly funny show playing in the West End for a limited-run only!

The Last Five Years extends season and moves to Garrick Theatre

Jason Robert Brown’s Drama Desk Award-winning musical, The Last Five Years, will now be opening at the larger Garrick Theatre for an extended limited season, previewing from 17 September, with an opening night on Thursday 23 September and now running until 17 October 2021.  Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle, Molly Lynch and Oli Higginson will reprise their roles as Cathy and Jamie, following a critically acclaimed run at Southwark Playhouse last year and a highly successful worldwide stream with stream.theatre.  This will be the first time the musical will have had a significant run of length in the West End.

The production at Southwark Playhouse was nominated for eight Offie Awards and won two for Best Director and Best Musical Production.  Oli Higginson was nominated for a Stage Debut Award for his performance as Jamie.

The Last Five Years is an emotionally powerful and intimate story about two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of five years.  The musical’s unconventional structure unfolds as Cathy, a struggling actor, tells her story in reverse, from the end of their turbulent relationship, whilst Jamie, a literary prodigy, tells his story chronologically from the spark of their initial meeting. In the musical, the two characters meet only once, at their wedding, which falls in the middle of the show.

Jonathan O’Boyle’s new actor-musician production has the actors on stage at all times and playing the piano to add a new narrative dimension to the story, accompanied by a four-piece band.

Brown’s cult classic musical was first seen in 2001 and ran off-Broadway in 2002. It was turned into a film in 2014 starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

Cast announced for the re-opening show in Arcola Outside, Arcola Theatre’s brand new outdoor venue

Arcola Outside

The cast is today announced for Arcola’s re-opening production in its new purpose-built outdoor venue, Arcola Outside.

A brand new, raucous adaptation of Pierre de Marivaux’s romantic comedy, ‘The Game of Love and Chance’ by Quentin Beroud and Jack Gamble, brings Marivaux’s classic comedy of love and class into a modern world of minor royals and major scandals. Lady Silvia Orgon, 58th in line to the British throne, faces a crisis when she falls in love with a man she thinks her family would never accept.

The production opens amid the fallout from the Harry and Meghan interview, which has shone an international spotlight on the Royal family’s traditional attitudes and the ongoing prejudices at the top of British society.

Arcola Outside is the brand-new outdoor covered performance space and bar designed by multi-award-winning stage designer Jon Bausor (‘Bat Out of Hell: The Musical’, ‘The Grinning Man’, London 2012 Paralympics Opening Ceremony), and built by a team of freelance theatre and live events technicians. The new space is close to the theatre’s main building on Ashwin Street, is the former home to the Arcola Tent between 2011 and 2014, and brings Arcola’s performance spaces and bar together under a giant roof.

David Acton, Ammar Duffus, George Kemp, Beth Lilly, Michael Lyle, Ellie Nunn

Playing from 14 July – 7 August, the cast includes; David Acton, Ammar Duffus, George Kemp, Beth Lilly, Michael Lyle, Ellie Nunn.

‘The Game of Love and Chance’ is part of Arcola Theatre’s re-opening outdoor festival of art and performance, ‘Today I’m Wiser’. Running from June to November, the festival features special collaborations and diverse stories from a broad range of theatre companies. The festival opens Arcola Theatre’s new outdoor performance space, Arcola Outside.
