Late Company arrives in West End

First Published 30 June 2017, Last Updated 30 June 2017

The Finborough Theatre hit bullying drama Late Company is to transfer to Trafalgar Studios this summer for its West End debut.

Highly praised on its European premiere at the venue this Spring, Stage Traffic’s production, penned by award-winning playwright Jordan Tannahill, will play for a limited run from 21 August – 16 September 2017, with press night on Thursday 24 August.

The play follows the lives of a successful middle-class couple, whose outlook is irrevocably changed when their son is cruelly bullied for being gay. In an attempt to “move on” they invite his chief tormentor, and his parents, to a dinner party – but peace is not easily attained, and layers of parental, sexual and political hypocrisy begin to unfurl.

Written with sensitivity and humour, Late Company explores restorative justice, cyber bullying, and the ever-changing complexities of parenthood in the 21st century.

Jordan Tannahill said of the play, “I wrote Late Company in the wake of an incident in my hometown of Ottawa, Canada that touched me deeply as a gay youth in my early twenties.”

“It was a piece I intended to share with my group of friends; a means of venting anger and seeking some kind of reckoning. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would make its way to West End. It is an honour to share this production with London audiences.”

Directed by Michael Yale, the full and original cast for Late Company will be reprising their roles in the production including Todd Boyce (The Exorcist, Birmingham Rep) as Michael, David Leopold (Burnt Part Boys, Park Theatre) as Curtis, Alex Lowe (Fatal Attraction, Theatre Royal Haymarket) as Bill, Lucy Robinson (Waste, National Theatre) as Debora and Lisa Stevenson (War Horse, National Theatre) as Tamara.

You can book your tickets through the venue’s website.
