King Charles III extends until January

The Almeida Theatre’s production of King Charles III will reign in the West End for longer after the critically acclaimed show announced it has extended its booking period to 31 January 2015.

Tim Pigott-Smith, who plays the country’s future monarch in the play, will continue in his role for the duration of the nine-week extension.

Written by Mike Bartlett, King Charles III imagines a world after the Queen’s death when the prince of its title takes to the throne. It explores the people underneath the crowns, the unwritten rules of our democracy and the conscience of Britain’s most famous family.

The production, which is directed by the Almeida Theatre’s Artistic Director Rupert Goold, opened at the Islington venue in April 2014 before transferring to the Wyndham’s Theatre, where it currently resides, earlier this month.

In Official London Theatre’s Matthew Amer’s First Night Feature, he described the play as “an intelligent, poetic, thoughtful, witty, emotional drama packed with perfect performances.”

Alongside Pigott-Smith, the production’s cast currently includes Oliver Chris, Katie Brayben, Richard Goulding, Nyasha Hatendi, Adam James, Margot Leicester, Tom Robertson, Nicholas Rowe, Nick Sampson, Tafline Steen and Lydia Wilson.
