Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams will share the title role in a new production from Olivier Award-winning director Robert Icke.

Robert Icke will adapt and direct a new production of Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart at the Almeida Theatre, with original music by Laura Marling. Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams will trade the roles of Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart, decided by the toss of a coin at each performance.

Robert Icke won an Olivier Award in 2016 for his adaptation of Oresteia at the Almeida, which also starred Lia Williams, who was nominated for Best Actress for her performance.

Mary Stuart runs at the Almeida Theatre from 2 December to 21 January 2017.

Richard III is currently running at the Almeida, you can read our review here
