In rehearsal: Sideways

First Published 10 May 2016, Last Updated 10 May 2016

As you might expect from a play set in wine country, everyone seems to be having a rather lovely time in rehearsals.

We’re not saying that the cast of the European premiere have been sipping the sauvignon blanc or chugging the Champagne, but there’s a lot of smiling and laughter in Pamela Raith’s pictures of rehearsals.

It’s not just the cast, which includes Simon Harrison, Daniel Weyman, Ellie Piercy and Beth Cordingly, that look to be having a suspiciously cheery time, director David Grindley’s at it too!

Of course, that laughter and joy might have more to do Rex Pickett’s play being a comedy than any grape juice guzzling.

Based on the book that inspired the Oscar-winning film, it is the tale of a neurotic author and a soon-to-be-wed actor making questionable decisions while in the grip of a mid-life crisis. When they bump into Maya and Terra they discover just how intoxicating a good glass of wine and good company can be.

Sideways runs at St James Theatre from 26 May to 9 July. You can book tickets through the theatre’s website.
