In rehearsal: Assassins

Published 7 November 2014

“Guns, lots of guns,” as The Matrix’s Neo might have said in 1999. “And actors, lots of actors” as we’ve just added. That’s how we’d describe these images from the rehearsals of the Menier Chocolate Factory’s Assassins.

The announcement that director Jamie Lloyd would be working on a Stephen Sondheim musical at the influential Menier Chocolate Factory certainly fired us up.

The news that the cast would include Catherine Tate, Andy Nyman, Aaron Tveit, Jamie Parker, Mike McShane, Simon Lipkin, David Robert, Stewart Clarke and Harry Morrison triggered even more excitement.

So we all but exploded when we saw this collection of images from the Assassins rehearsal room.

Of course, we should not have been so surprised about the pictures featuring more guns than the average game of Call Of Duty, Sondheim’s musical brings together the baker’s dozen of homicidally minded souls who have tried, and in some cases succeeded, to do in US presidents. An unlikely topic for a musical, you might think, but it explores how different these would-be murderers are from each other and from us.

Intrigued? Assassins begins previews later this month. Until then enjoy these rehearsal shots.
