In rehearsal: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

First Published 20 May 2013, Last Updated 20 August 2013

What says English summer better than a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed in a roofless theatre? Possibly you could add a Pimms in there and a cloud lurking ominously on the horizon, but watching such a performance is as essential as swimming in ridiculously cold sea water while pretending to have fun.

This year Shakespeare’s Globe is providing the magically mischievous tale of misplaced love and battling fairies, with Olivier Award-winner Michelle Terry leading the cast as fairy queen Titania and London stage regular John Light as Oberon.

Photographer Mark Douet was allowed access to A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s rehearsals to whet the appetite for seasonal entertainment with images both frighteningly brutal and delightfully joyful.
