In pictures: West Side Story hits London’s streets

The musical is set on the turbulent streets of New York, but last week cast members from West Side Story took to the streets of London to showcase some of the show’s iconic choreography.

Leake Street’s colourful urban graffiti provided a suitably contemporary and gritty backdrop for the photo shoot, which featured members of the musical’s rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, demonstrating their dance moves prior to the production’s opening at Sadler’s Wells last Thursday.

The popular musical, which features Jerome Robbins’ original choreography and charts the story of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria in a city brimming with racial tension, plays at the Islington venue until 22 September.
