In pictures: Moominsummer Madness

Short of new born pandas and colleagues’ children, no photos have elicited quite so many beaming smiles and coos in the Official London Theatre office as those sent to us of Moominsummer Madness’ stars by Polka Theatre (see gallery above).

The show, which celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Moomins’ creator Tove Jansson, may not start performances until next month, but we are already head over heels in love with the white hippo-like creations.

From fellow children’s venue the Little Angel Theatre’s puppetry workshop to Polka’s rehearsal room, the incredible images show how the adorable stars have progressed from pencil drawn sketches to coming to life, complete with top hats and handbags, for their theatrical spectacular.

While it is easy to get distracted by their cuteness, make sure you don’t miss the fascinating details in the photos above, from the tiny wooden hands used as templates to the wide variety of tools in the treasure trove-like workshop that is an arts and craft fan’s dream.

Want more? Head to Polka Theatre to catch the famous family and friends in the musical adventure from 11 June.
