The Believers

Frantic Assembly are Tricycle Believers

Published 6 November 2013

Frantic Assembly and award-winning playwright Bryony Lavery will continue their history of collaboration next year with the London premiere of The Believers at the Tricycle theatre.

The acclaimed theatre company, famous for its inventive use of physical movement, will present The Believers at the Kilburn venue from 22 April (press night 25 April) to 17 May following a UK tour.

The production will be directed by the company’s Artistic Director Scott Graham, whose Olivier Award nominated work with Steven Hoggett on The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time brought Frantic Assembly’s unique movement style to the spotlight.

Telling the story of two very different families, The Believers sees the characters flung together on a night of cataclysmic weather, wrestling with their differences until the unthinkable happens.

As their versions of what took place begin to fall apart and their perspectives become clouded by suspicion, they turn on each other in a desperate fight to understand the truth.

The production marks the third time Lavery has collaborated with Frantic Assembly, following critically acclaimed shows Stockholm and Beautiful Burnout, both of which were directed by Graham. The Tony Award nominated writer’s other plays include Frozen, Kursk and Cesario.

The Believers, which is suitable for audiences aged 14+, will arrive at the Tricycle theatre following dates at regional venues including its co-producing venue the Theatre Royal Plymouth. Its run will follow the return of 2012’s multi award-winning Tricycle hit, Red Velvet, which plays a limited from 23 January before its New York transfer.
