Footsbarn dreams of Victoria Park

First Published 29 September 2008, Last Updated 30 September 2008

Fairies will be frolicking in London’s Victoria Park this autumn as Footsbarn theatre company presents its acclaimed touring production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream from 7 to 30 November (press night 12 November).

Shakespeare’s comedy of love, mistaken identity and magic spells is given a carnivalesque flavour by Footsbarn, which will stage the production in its trademark Big Top in Victoria Park in Hackney.

An international touring company, Footsbarn was established over 35 years ago in Cornwall. The ensemble now comprises 12 different nationalities of actors and musicians under Artistic Director Paddy Hayter, and is based on a farm in the Auvergne region of France.

This is the second time that Footsbarn has presented work in London this year. The company played five performances of A Shakespeare Party at Shakespeare’s Globe in May, a production commissioned by the Bankside venue. Since then Footsbarn has been touring the UK, including making its first ever appearance at the Edinburgh Festival.
