Dillon joins Mangan for Birthday

First Published 25 April 2012, Last Updated 25 April 2012

Lisa Dillon will star in the Royal Court Theatre’s forthcoming tense drama Birthday, appearing opposite the previously announced Stephen Mangan.

Joe Penhall’s new play will see the pair play a couple awaiting the arrival of their new baby. Determined to do things differently from their last child, the couple have adopted a whole new birth plan and its proving to be a bumpy ride.

While Cranford star Dillon is a regular on the London stage, Birthday marks the actress’s Royal Court debut. Her previous theatre credits include National Theatre productions Present Laughter and The Hour We Knew Nothing Of Each Other, A Flea In Her Ear and Design For Living at the Old Vic, Knot Of The Heart at the Almeida and Private Lives in the West End. Dillon’s most recent stage outing saw her star in The Taming Of The Shrew for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Birthday runs from 22 June to 4 August with further casting to be announced. The production, which will be directed by Roger Michell, follows Mike Bartlett’s drama Love Love Love into the venue’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.
