Deyn debuts opposite Stoppard

Supermodel Agyness Deyn will make her stage debut opposite theatre veteran Ed Stoppard in a new comedy about a vulgar couple with more money than sense.

François Archambault’s The Leisure Society will open at the Trafalgar Studios 2 on 1 March with previews from 28 February. A deliciously offensive satire, the four-hander tells the story of a work-numbed, self-obsessed couple, played by Stoppard and Melanie Gray, who find their life out of control.

Set over the course of an evening of drunken debauchery with their fast-living best friend and his young friend with benefits, The Leisure Society is described as a morality play with no morals, offering a glimpse into the world of self-indulgence and excess.

Deyn will play the promiscuous, free-spirited Paula. The English model has graced the cover of magazines and catwalks all over the world. The face of numerous high-profile fashion houses, Vogue Paris listed her as one of the top 30 models of the last decade. After deciding to take a break from modelling to forge a career in acting, Deyn made her debut in the 2010 film Clash Of The Titans as the Greek goddess Aphrodite.

Stoppard returns to the stage after the 2009 hit revival of Arcadia at the Duke of York’s theatre. His other stage credits include English Touring Theatre’s Hamlet, The Glass Menagerie at the Apollo and Chichester Festival Theatre’s The Seagull. Also a well known face on television, Stoppard starred in the recent remake of Upstairs Downstairs and Tchaikovsky: Fortune And Tragedy.

The UK premiere of The Leisure Society will be directed by Harry Burton (The Dumb Waiter, I Found My Horn) and runs until 24 March.
