London regulars Siân Brooke, Charles Edwards, Pippa Haywood, Stuart McQuarrie and Howard Ward are joined by Isabella Laughland and James Musgrave in Nick Payne’s new play about sex and intimacy.

Wanderlust, which opens at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs next month, follows GP Joy, who struggles to maintain an interest in sex, her husband who can think of little else and their teenage son Tim, who is ‘ready to burst’.

Haywood, who plays Joy, is best known for her work on TV comedies including Green Wing and The Brittas Empire. Currently appearing in Alice at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, her London credits include Landscape With Weapon at the National Theatre. McQuarrie, who plays her husband, returns to the Royal Court, where he previously appeared in Relocated and Cleansed, as does Brooke, who appeared in both Dying City and Harvest at the Sloane Square venue.

Edwards and Ward both count West End long runners among their credits, Edwards having led the cast of The 39 Steps both in London and on Broadway, and Ward having starred in War Horse at the National Theatre and New London Theatre.

Younger cast members Musgrave and Laughland are not without experience of their own, Musgrave having appeared in The Browning Version at Theatre Royal Bath, and Laughland having played Leanne in big screen blockbuster Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince and the yet-to-be released Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

Wanderlust, the Royal Court debut for the George Devine Award-winning playwright Payne, leads an autumn season at the Royal Court that also includes Clybourne Park, Tribes, Red Bud, Kin and the venue’s first festive family show Get Santa!
