Clive Owen will make his first West End appearance in 18 years, performing opposite Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn and stage star Lia Williams, in a new production of Tennessee Williams’ The Night Of The Iguana.

A Golden Globe and BAFTA award winner, Clive, who is best known for roles in films including Sin City, Children Of Men and Closer (for which he received an Academy Award nomination), will play the Reverend T Lawrence Shannon in the new production.

The cast will also include Olivier Award winner and Game Of Thrones star Julian Glover as Nonno, while Anna will play Maxine Faulk, and Lia will play Hannah Jelkes.

Tennessee Williams’ classic play is set in Mexico in 1940, where a group of lost souls are set to converge upon a hotel: the Reverend T Lawrence (Clive Owen),  a defrocked priest turned struggling tour guide; Maxine Faulk (Anna Gun), a grieving widow who runs the hotel; and a portrait artist and her elderly poet grandfather (Lia Williams & Julian Glover). There, deeply human bonds will emerge, and an epic battle will take pace between flesh and spirit – between art and faith.

James Macdonald (whose recent credits include Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?) will direct The Night Of The Iguana, which will begin performances at the Noël Coward Theatre on Saturday 6 July, playing a strictly limited 12-week season.

Tickets for the production will go on sale on Tuesday 5 February.
