The Menier Chocolate Factory has today announced casting for the UK premiere of Gerard Alessandrini’s Spamilton: An American Parody.

Taking aim at the Olivier, Tony, Pulitzer and Grammy Award-winning musical Hamilton, Spamilton: An American Parody sees Alessandrini brings his singular wit to the all-conquering show, following the success of Forbidden Broadway at the theatre and in the West End.

The show not only takes target at Broadway’s biggest export, but a host of the theatre world’s biggest names and musicals. In the words of its creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, “I laughed my brains out”.

Alessandrini himself will direct Marc Akinfolarin (Spamalot, UK tour), Jason Denton (School Of Rock, West End), Eddie Elliott (Motown The Musical, West End), Liam Tamne (The Rocky Horror Show, UK tour) and Julie Yammanee (Lazarus, King’s Cross Theatre), with special guests Sophie-Louise Dann (The Girls, Bend It Like Beckham) and Damian Humbley (Merrily We Roll Along, West End).

Described by the New York Times as “smart, silly and convulsively funny”, Spamilton: An American Parody makes its UK debut at the Menier from 24 July, with previews from 12 July, running until 8 September.

Tickets are available through the Menier Chocolate Factory website.
