Bat Boy musical flies back to London

Published 31 October 2014

Cult hit show Bat Boy: The Musical will bring its quirky tale to London again, a decade after making its debut in the capital, when it runs at the Southwark Playhouse next January.

The story of an unusual bat-child discovered in a dank cave and its effect on the small, god-fearing community of Hope Falls, West Virginia will star Matthew White as Dr Parker, the town vet who takes in the hybrid kid, with Lauren Ward as his wife.

White, who boasts credits in Ragtime, Chicago and The Phantom Of The Opera, may be better known for his more recent directorial duties on productions including Top Hat, Sweet Charity and Little Shop Of Horrors. Ward originated the role of Matilda The Musical’s Miss Honey, both in the West End and on Broadway.

Joey McKneely, who directed and choreographed the 50th anniversary production of West Side Story, will provide choreography for Bat Boy: The Musical, with direction from Luke Fredericks.
