Projectionist Sebastian Venable greets the ghosts of movie stars of the past. He has a dialogue with his favourite diva, the now almost forgotten Alla Nazimova. He reveals to her his feelings of loss and desperation and his search for the real Sebastian on celluloid. They go on a journey through Hollywood via the silent 20s, the advent of sound, a Fred Astaire musical, World War II, horror film niors, Doris Day comedies, Hitchcock thrillers, sex revolution in the 60s, AIDS dramas, comedies starring Julia Roberts’ best friend and the 2006 Oscar night.
