A new folk opera by Guy Chambers, entitled The Selfish Giant, will enchant theatregoers young and old alike with its magical musical world.
The Selfish Giant is a Classic Spring Theatre Company and Royal and Derngate, Northampton co-production, playing as part of the former’s Oscar Wilde celebratory season at the Vaudeville Theatre.
The Selfish Giant has a beautiful garden, but he won’t let any of the children play in it. Winter comes and never leaves. The Giant looks over his garden from his tall window. What will he do?
Don’t miss this limited run of a new folk opera, adapted from Oscar Wilde’s classic children’s story by three-time BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Guy Chambers, who has written No 1 songs for Robbie Williams including Angels, Feel and Let Me Entertain You. He has also collaborated with Kylie Minogue, Rufus Wainwright, Mark Ronson and Diana Ross, amongst others.
The Selfish Giant is directed by Bill Buckhurst, whose Pie and Mash shop-set production of Sweeney Todd is currently playing on Broadway. It transfers directly from the Royal and Derngate for a limited run in the West End.
The cast are joined on stage by a large band of extraordinary musicians in a unique concert-staging that will transport audiences young and old to a magical world through music.
