Adele Thomas directs a new adaptation of Aeschylus’ trilogy The Oresteia by award-winning playwright Rory Mullarkey.

Condensed into one thrilling three-act play, The Oresteia documents the bitter cycle of violent retribution that afflicts the House of Atreus as a consequence of Agamemnon’s sacrifice of his daughter Iphigenia. It dramatises the shift away from the ‘natural law’ of the individual blood vendetta and towards a self-governing polis founded on principles of fair trial and punishment.

Mullarkey’s adaptation explores the contemporary resonances in Aeschylus’ extraordinary portrait of a society in a state of great flux and turmoil, and follows his other recent commissions, which include The Wolf From The Door for the Royal Court.
