Kathy Burke directs Mary J O’Malley’s award-winning comedy set in a girls’ convent school in 1950s Willesden.

First staged at the Royal Court in 1977, Once A Catholic tells the story of a group of school girls who are approaching their final exams. While the nuns of Our Lady Of Fatima preach chastity and diligence, the girls have other ideas as their last year in uniform leads to a much less holy discovery.

Burke returns to the Tricycle theatre following her critically acclaimed production of The Quare Fellow in 2004. Best known for her comedy acting roles in Harry Enfield film Kevin And Perry Go Large and hit BBC sitcom Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, her directing credits include Out In The Open and Born Bad at the Hampstead theatre.

Once A Catholic won multiple awards following its premiere several decades ago and went on to enjoy a two-year run in the West End. O’Malley’s other plays include Superscum, Oh If Ever A Man Suffered, Talk Of The Devil and Oy Vay Maria.
