To Life – L’chaim! The iconic musical Fiddler On The Roof is returning to the West End for a limited time only!
Transferring from the Menier Chocolate Factory after a successful (and sold-out) run, Fiddler On The Roof tickets will be in hot demand for performances at the Playhouse Theatre from 21 March. Directed by the Olivier Award-winning Trevor Nunn, this critically acclaimed production has proven a popular revival of the Broadway classic, having been the first production of the show on the London stage since May 2007.
Fiddler On The Roof tells the story of Tevye and his five daughters. Tevye’s Jewish faith means a lot to him, and even under difficult circumstances, he strives to maintain it. From his daughter’s choosing husbands who aren’t as traditionally Jewish as Tevye would like, to the Tsar evicting Jewish people from their village, Tevye has many battles to face. But his daughters’ unexpected choice in husbands starts to open up Tevye’s heart to new possibilities, and his close-knot community soon needs him.
Featuring the unforgettable score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, you’ll have to stop yourself singing along to classic lines from the show, with songs including Tradition, Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Sunrise, Sunset and If I Were A Rich Man. Add in Jerome Robbins’ original Tony award-winning choreography into the mix and you’ll soon see that this production of Fiddler On The Roof unleashes a new life into one of the most beloved musicals of all time. Even the Playhouse Theatre is getting into the spirit of the show, transforming into an immersive space during the show’s run.
Starring as Tevye is Andy Nyman. Andy is an award-winning actor, director and writer who’s earned critical acclaim for his work across theatre, film and television. His previous theatre work includes Assassins, Abigail’s Party and the original production of Ghost Stories which he starred in, co-wrote and co-directed with Jeremy Dyson. Andy has also collaborated with Derren Brown for nearly 20 years, assisting with the writing and creation of six stage shows, one of which won the Best Entertainment Olivier Award in 2006.
Judy Kuhn will be playing the role of Golde in Fiddler On The Roof. A four-time Tony Award nominee, Judy has had a successful music career, including releasing four studio albums and lending her vocals to the 1995 Disney film, Pocahontas. Judy has also trodden theatre boards several times, including in productions of Fun Home, Chess, Les Miserables, The Visit and Sunset Boulevard.
Please note that from 18 June, Olivier Award winner Maria Friedman will assume the role of Golde, and star of stage and screen Anita Dobson will play Yente.
A large number of the original Fiddler On The Roof cast from the Menier Chocolate Factory also return for this West End transfer.
