Defying Hitler author Sebastian Haffner was born in Berlin in 1907, making him 26 when Hitler came to power. Defying Hitler charts the trials and tribulations of his life, leading up to his eventual emigration to England in 1939. The rise of the Nazis is explored simultaneously through the eyes of the child who experiences it and of the 32-year-old man looking back over his early life and wrestling with the question ‘whatever became of the Germans?’
