Mozart and Da Ponte's great opera about fidelity and friendship. Read More >

Thomas Allen as Don Alfonso and Nuccia Focile as Despina Photo: Catherine Ashmore“I’m dating my best friend’s girlfriend!” It sounds like a line from Jerry Springer, but Mozart and Da Ponte got there 250 years beforehand with this opera about mates mating with their mate’s mate.

Set in fashionable Naples in the late 18th Century, Cosí tells the story of two men who, as a sort of ill-advised joke, decide to try and seduce each other’s partners. Inevitably, things get out of hand as everyone’s relationship is tested to its limit.

Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
