In China, Meng flees persecution, Lan, a blue haired rebel girl seeks freedom in the west and Chen moves to mend a broken heart.

In England, a Dover immigration officer catalogues the possessions of 58 Chinese, found dead in the back of a lorry. This is the poignant story of some of those whose struggle for freedom and a new life ended at Dover in 2000.
