West End Ghost goes West

First Published 22 August 2011, Last Updated 23 August 2011

The West End’s spookiest evening of tuneful entertainment, Ghost The Musical, has proved such a hit in London that a Broadway production has been announced.

A US production of Ghost The Musical will open at a Nederlander Theatre in New York in April 2012, following previews from March.

Based on the Oscar-winning film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, Ghost The Musical tells the story of Sam, a ghost trapped between this world and the next as he tries to save his girlfriend from a murderer.

Such has been the success of the London production, which includes music by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard, that it recently extended its London booking period deep into 2012, having only opened in the West End in July.

Casting is yet to be announced for the New York production, though there is bound to be speculation that Canadian leading lady Caissie Levy and her British leading man Richard Fleeshman might make the transatlantic leap to open the musical on the Great White Way.
