The Play That Goes Wrong announces new cast

First Published 12 April 2017, Last Updated 20 April 2017

A week after opening across the pond on Broadway, The Play That Goes Wrong has announced there will be a new cast at the Duchess Theatre from Wednesday 10 May 2017.

The Play That Goes Wrong’s phenomenal popularity looks set to continue as it is now playing in six out of seven continents of the world. Producer Kenny Wax says ‘we are avoiding Antarctica for fear of an icy reception’.

The production is currently playing all over Europe including London, Paris and Budapest, in North America on Broadway, in Argentina (South America), Japan (Asia), South Africa and in Australia.

Mischief Theatre founder and writer Henry Lewis said, “We are simply baffled by the success of the show in the West End and all over the world. We cannot understand why audiences are finding our little murder mystery so funny. They don’t seem to be taking the play seriously at all”.

Back at the Duchess Theatre, from Wednesday 10 May, Jack Baldwin will play Chris, Leonard Cook will play Robert, Katy Daghorn will play Sandra, Fred Gray will play Jonathan, George Haynes will play Max, Daniel Poyser will play Trevor, Lindsey Scott will play Annie and Sydney K Smith will play Dennis. The company is completed by Tom Babbage, Jamie Birkett, Sean Carey and Beth Lilly.

Awarded the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong continues to thrive in the West End. It is a remarkable rags-to-riches story for a play which started its life at a London fringe venue with only four paying members of the public at the first performance, and has played to an audience of over a quarter of a million.

Mischief Theatre was founded in 2008 by a group of graduates of The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and began as an improvised comedy group. Mischief Theatre performs across the UK and internationally with improvised and original scripted work. Their other production The Comedy About A Bank Robbery is currently at the Criterion Theatre whilst The Play That Goes Wrong completes a UK national tour in July 2017, an Australian tour finishing in June 2017 and is currently running on Broadway, booking until September 2017. The company is led by Artistic Director Henry Lewis and Company Director Jonathan Sayer.

The Play That Goes Wrong is directed by Mark Bell, with set designs by Nigel Hook, lighting by Ric Mountjoy, sound design by Andy Johnson, costumes by Roberto Surace and is currently performed by Adam Byron, Drew Dillon, Joanne Ferguson, Fred Gray, April Hughes, Oliver Llewellyn-Jenkins, Daniel Millar and Hayden Wood. The Play That Goes Wrong is produced in the West End by Kenny Wax Ltd and Stage Presence Ltd.
