New Churchill short for Court autumn

Ding Dong The Wicked, a new short play by Caryl Churchill, will play alongside the acclaimed playwright’s full length drama Love And Information at the Royal Court this autumn.

The 30 minute play will be directed by the venue’s Artistic Director Dominic Cooke and star Claire Foy, Daniel Kendrick, Stuart McQuarrie and Sophie Stanton, with further casting to be announced.

Playing matinee and late night shows from 1 to 13 October, Cooke described the new play today as “as fresh and unusual as anything she’s written,” adding: “while it differs from Love And Information in content and form, to see both plays in one night promises a fascinating evening. This is the fourth play of Caryl’s that I’ve directed and I can’t wait!”

Upstairs Downstairs star Foy returns to the Sloane Square venue to appear in Ding Dong The Wicked following April’s hit Love, Love, Love, with Kendrick making a similarly speedy return after appearing in the Royal Court’s spring production of Vera Vera Vera.

Trainspotting star McQuarrie is a Royal Court regular, having appeared in the award-winning Clybourne Park, Wanderlust and Relocated at the venue. While his forthcoming co-star EastEnders’ Stanton will make her Royal Court acting debut in the production, she also boasts impressive stage credits including England People Very Nice and Market Boy at the National Theatre, The Knot Of The Heart at the Almeida theatre and Sleeping Around at the Donmar Warehouse.

The Royal Court first staged one of Churchill’s many plays 40 years ago and has since programmed a vast collection of the influential playwright’s work including Seven Jewish Children, A Number, Cloud Nine and Serious Money. Her latest full length play Love And Information runs from 6 September.
