Award-winning actress Linda Bassett will make her Royal Court return in Caryl Churchill’s new play Love And Information, which will play in the theatre’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs space this September.

Directed by James Macdonald, Love And Information is described as a “fast moving kaleidoscope” and features a cast of 16 playing more than a hundred characters trying to make sense of what they know.

Bassett will be joined in the cast by Amanda Drew, Laura Elphinstone, Susan Engel, Paul Jesson, Justin Salinger, Amit Shah, Rhashan Stone, Josh Williams, Sarah Woodward, Nikki Amuka-Bird, John Heffernan, Scarlett Brookes, Joshua James and Nell Williams.

Bassett returns to the Sloane Square venue after starring in this year’s critically acclaimed In Basildon and previous appearances in Wastwater, In Stone, Lucky Dog and East Is East, which she subsequently went on to star in the film adaptation of.

A well-known face on screen as well as on stage, Bassett’s many credits include films Calendar Girls and The Hours, and television programmes Larkrise To Candleford, Sense And Sensibility and Grandma’s House.

Many of her forthcoming co-stars are also Royal Court regulars, with EastEnders’ Drew (Enron, Faces In The Crowd), Elphinstone (Country Music), Engel (Spinning In Butter), Jesson (Cock, The Seagull), Salinger (Bliss, Food Chain, Under The Blue Sky), Shah (Shades, Free Outgoing), Stone (Clubland), Williams (Our Private Life) and Woodward (Jumpy) all making their return to the venue in Churchill’s play.

Amuka-Bird and Heffernan will make their Royal Court debuts in Love And Information, but both boast impressive theatrical CVs. Amuka Bird has appeared in The Trial Of Ubu (Hampstead), Welcome To Thebes (National Theatre) and The God’s Weep (Hampstead/RSC), while Heffernan’s extensive appearances include the Donmar Warehouse’s recent hit The Physicists and She Stoops To Conquer, Emperor And Galilean, After The Dance and The Habit Of Art at the National Theatre.

Completing the cast are Brookes, James and Williams who will all make their professional stage debuts in the production.

Love And Information runs from 6 September (press night 14 September) until 13 October and will feature design by the much acclaimed Miriam Buether.
