Theatre company HighTide is to make its West End debut with Edinburgh Festival hit Lidless, a play about a Guantanamo Bay interrogator, which runs at Trafalgar Studio 2 from 10 March to 2 April (press night 15 March).
The play, by American writer Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig, centres on Alice, who, 15 years ago, took pills to forget what she did as part of her job as an interrogator at Guantanamo Bay. Now married with a child, her past comes back to haunt her when a former detainee pays her a visit.
Lidless comes to London following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival over the summer, where it won a Fringe First Award.
Founded in 2007, HighTide produces work by emerging playwrights at its annual theatre festival in Suffolk. The company has previously transferred productions to London, including Ditch at the Old Vic Tunnels, I Caught Crabs In Walberswick at the Bush theatre and Stovepipe, a promenade production at a shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush co-produced by the National Theatre and the Bush theatre.
Lidless plays at Trafalgar Studio 2 – which will be reconfigured in the round – following two other Edinburgh Festival shows, Barbershopera – Apocalypse No! and The Fitzrovia Radio Hour. Currently playing at the intimate venue is Les Parents Terribles, which will be followed by Horla’s A Christmas Carol.
