Harry Potter And The Cursed Child announces Broadway cast

Published August 2, 2017

Seven members of the award-winning Original West End Company will reunite on stage for the Broadway premiere of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child next Spring.

Jamie Parker (Harry Potter), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger) and Paul Thornley (Ron Weasley), with Poppy Miller (Ginny Potter), Sam Clemmett (Albus Potter), Alex Price (Draco Malfoy) and Anthony Boyle (Scorpius Malfoy) will play in the original Broadway cast of the show.

Preview performances will begin in New York at the fully renovated Lyric Theatre in March 2018, with an official opening on Sunday 22 April 2018.

The seven leads will be joined by an ensemble cast of 28 new faces: David Abeles, Brian Abraham, Shirine Babb, Jess Barbagallo, Stephen Bradbury, Lauren Nicole Cipoletti, Joshua De Jesus, Jessie Fisher, Richard Gallagher, Susan Heyward, Geraldine Hughes, Edward James Hyland, Byron Jennings, Katie Kreisler, Joey LaBrasca, Andrew Long, Kathryn Meisle, Angela Reed, Dave Register, Adeola Role, James Romney, Malika Samuel, Alanna Saunders, David St. Louis, Stuart Ward, Madeline Weinstein, Alex Weisman and Benjamin Wheelwright will be playing a variety of characters. The cast will also include four children, who will alternate two roles.

Director John Tiffany said, “We have assembled an extraordinary cast for Broadway. Our Cursed Child family is growing, with 28 brilliant new actors bringing their unique talents to our production.”

“I also can’t wait to dive back into it with seven of our original London cast members reprising their thrilling performances for New York audiences. The adventure continues…”

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child has garnered 22 major theatre awards in the UK, having earlier this year become the most awarded production in the history of the Olivier Awards with Mastercard, claiming a record-breaking nine awards earlier this year including Best New Play and Best Director.

The show centres on an adult Harry Potter in his eighth story, a continuation of the world-conquering book series. Things are much easier for him now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne, directed by John Tiffany. The production is one play presented in two parts, with both parts intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings.

Tickets for the Broadway production of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child will go on sale October 12 via Ticketmaster Verified Fan®, following a required registration period between October 1 – October 5.
