Former X-Factor finalist Brenda Edwards is to return to the West End stage next Monday when she joins the cast of We Will Rock You to play Killer Queen.

Edwards, who will perform a 10-week season at London’s Dominion theatre from 21 June, recently played the role of the live music-hating baddy on the rock musical’s UK tour. She replaces current performer Mazz Murray.

The show’s co-creator and Queen guitarist Brian May commented: “We’re very happy that, while our wonderful Mazz Murray takes a break to have her baby, Brenda Edwards is to play Killer Queen for us in the Dominion theatre. Brenda is irrepressible, scary, funny and a killer singer. The lot! She delighted audiences on the We Will Rock You tour of Britain last year. I have no doubt that she will Rock the Dominion.”

Edwards entered Simon Cowell’s pop star talent search X-Factor in 2005, progressing further than any other woman in the year that Shayne Ward won. Following her TV success she was cast as prison guard Mama Morton in long-running London musical Chicago, playing the role for a year. She has also performed in Carmen Jones at the Royal Festival Hall and already has more than 300 touring performances as Killer Queen under her theatrical belt. Following her London engagement, Edwards will return to the touring production in December.

We Will Rock You, the Ben Elton-penned musical based on the songs of the Freddie Mercury-fronted rock band Queen, is currently enjoying its ninth year entertaining audiences at London’s Dominion theatre. The tale of rebels fighting for individuality and freedom in a futuristic world where rock music is banned has played for more than four million people since it opened in April 2002.
