Beyond Bollywood heads to West End

Published 12 January 2015

A brand new musical celebrating the colourful, exuberant cultural history of India, Beyond Bollywood, will receive its West End premiere at the London Palladium this summer.

Fresh from its sell-out debut run in Mumbai, a company of more than 40 will bring Beyond Bollywood to life in London from 8 May (press night 11 May) to 27 June.

Described as not just a musical but a “theatrical experience never seen before outside a Bollywood movie”, the show tells the story of Shaily Shergill who leaves her home in Munich to journey to India and fulfil her mother’s dying wish.

Capturing all the colour, energy and exuberance of Bollywood – one of the world’s largest and most successful commercial film industries – the musical promises to bring all the “fire, heat and desire” of classic Indian folk dance – from Bhangra to Kathak – and music to the heart of London.

Bringing together a quartet of legendary Bollywood artists, the musical is written, choreographed and directed by choreographer and former pop star Rajeev Goswami, features lyrics by Bollywood’s equally well-known Irfan Siddiqui and original music by writing duo Salim-Sulaiman who have scored numerous Bollywood hits.

Beyond Bollywood will follow Cats into the London Palladium when Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical concludes its strictly limited West End revival run on 25 April.
