Brecht’s Mother Courage And Her Children portrays a wise woman who drags her cart of wares across the battlefields, profiteering from a war that destroys her children one by one.

Fiona Shaw and director Deborah Warner team up once again for Mother Courage And Her Children. The pair have worked together on numerous occasions, several of them at the National Theatre, including Happy Days, Richard II, The Good Person Of Sichuan and The Powerbook. Elsewhere their work includes Medea, Electra, Hedda Gabler and The Waste Land. Laurence Olivier Award-winning actress Shaw has also starred in Machinal, The Way Of The World and The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie.

Tony Kusher, who translated this version of Mother Courage And Her Children, has previously seen his epic play Angels In America staged at the National Theatre and, more recently, Caroline, Or Change, which won the Best New Musical Laurence Olivier Award.

Mother Courage And Her Children forms part of the National Theatre’s Travelex £10 Tickets initiative.
