Philip Glass's Waiting For The Barbarians based on the novel by John M. Coetzee, looks at war between oppressors and oppressed.

The barbarians are coming. Torture is used to obtain confessions from the barbarian prisoners, thus justifying the necessity for the premeditated campaign against the tribe.

This is the third contemporary opera staged at Barbican Hall as part of the Present Voices season.
