The life of a small town librarian is turned upside down by the return of a book overdue by 113 years. It unleashes a detective spirit in him as he tries to track down the person who returned the book as they have a very large fine to pay. Before long adventure takes over where duty began, and th quest takes on a mythical quality as he becomes convinced he is searching for an alternate truth to Everyman.

Underneath The Lintel premiered off-Broadway in 2001, playing over 400 performances and being named in Time Out New York’s Ten Best Plays Of The Year. This production, starring The West Wing’s Richard Schiff, opened at the George Street Playhouse in early 2006.
