Phillip Breen directs a revival of Sam Shepard’s modern classic about an earnest screenwriter on the verge of success.

Exposing the cracks in the American Dream, True West tells the story of screenwriter Austin who is working on a script for a Hollywood producer while house-sitting for his mother in LA. When his brother Lee, a petty thief, stops by, he pitches his own idea for the movie and convinces the producer to ditch Austin’s love story for his own trashy Western tale.

Forced to work together to secure the deal, the brothers’ mistrust and jealousy begisn to bubble under the surface and, as the heat of a Californian night melts away their inhibitions, their own flaws threaten to get in the way.

The cast of the production includes Eugene O’Hare (Austin) and Alex Ferns (Lee).  O’Hare returns to the Tricycle Theatre following his performance in the venue’s acclaimed production of Red Velvet, while Ferns’ theatre credits include Coyote On A Fence, for which he won a UK Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The production is suitable for individuals aged 12 and older.
