A tumultuous story of murder, love, lust and political intrigue, and supported beautifully by Puccini’s richly romantic score, Tosca is one of the world’s best loved operas.

A tumultuous story of murder, love, lust and political intrigue, and supported beautifully by Puccini’s richly romantic score, Tosca is one of the world’s best loved operas.

Set in Rome at the time of Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, opera singer Tosca’s love for artist Cavaradossi is boundless.

But embroiled in transition, personal matters become political in Rome, as sadistic police chief Scarpia attempts to claim Tosca as his own by turning the strength of her passion to his own advantage.

Catherine Malfitano’s insightful production returns to the ENO with fast-rising soprano Keri Alkema starring as the eponymous figure.
