Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Aaron Sorkin’s Tony Award-nominated production, To Kill A Mockingbird, is set to land in the West End at the Gielguld Theatre.

The enduring story of racial injustice and childhood innocence has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide and has seen many adaptations over the years including an Academy Award-winning film and multiple adaptations for the stage.

Set in Alabama in 1934, To Kill a Mockingbird tells the story of one of the most respected characters in American literature, the small-town lawyer Atticus Finch and his daughter, Scout. When Atticus is tasked with defending a local who is accused of rape, he goes on to explore the justice and racial tension in a small Southern town.

Though the book was written almost sixty years ago, the story is still very much relevant today.

Rafe Spall will star as Atticus Finch in the West End transfer of To Kill A Mockingbird, recently appearing in On Bear Ridge at the Royal Court. He has also starred as Ebenezer Scrooge in Jack Thorne’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic, as well as Exit the King at the National Theatre.

Other characters include Atticus’s daughter Scout, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker Calpurnia, their visiting friend Dill, a mysterious neighbour the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley, and the other indelible residents of Maycomb, Alabama.

Holding the benchmark of having become the most successful American play in Broadway history, we are eagerly anticipating the opening of this critical sensation in London’s West End.
