From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is the new biographical musical which follows the story of a global icon, featuring her much loved songs.

Presented in association with Tina Turner herself, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, making her West End debut in the role, portrays the titular global star in this triumphant musical tale, which was also nominated for Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards 2019 with Mastercard.

Throughout her career, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This new stage musical, directed by the internationally acclaimed Phyllida Lloyd, reveals the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race.

One of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, Tina Turner first rose to fame in the 1960s, partnering with her then-husband Ike Turner, achieving great acclaim for their live performances and catalogue of hits. The duo’s releases at the time included the likes of A Fool In Love (1960) and River Deep – Mountain High (1966).

Divorce from Ike followed in 1978, with Tina Turner going on to enjoy an international solo career which saw her win 11 Grammy Awards. Her string of hits included Let’s Stay Together (1983), What’s Love Got To Do With It (1984 – Tina’s biggest hit, winning four Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year), The Best (1988), I Don’t Wanna Fight (1993) and the Bond theme tune GoldenEye (1995). A Tina Turner musical has long been suggested for the theatre – her biographical film was released in 1993, and she has also starred in numerous major movies, including opposite Mel Gibson in the 1985 action film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

The revered singer was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and has often been voted as one of the most successful female Rock ‘n’ Roll artists of all time. Her live shows have been seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical made its stunning world premiere at the Aldwych Theatre in April 2018, written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Katori Hall, and continues to have West End audiences revelling in Simply The Best iconic sounds.
