Princess Aurora is put into a deep sleep by the Lilac Fairy to prevent her untimely death after she is cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse. A century later is awakened with a kiss by the handsome Prince Florimund.

With music by Tchaikovsky, the ballet includes his famous and lyrical Waltz and the Rose Adage as Aurora meets in turn her four princely suitors.

The Staging currently in The Royal Ballet repertory is the famous De Valois-Sergeyev-Messel production of 1946 which was revived for the 75th anniversary celebrations of The Royal Ballet in 2006.
